GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD
GOLD AWARD PROJECT

Julia is a proud recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting. For her project, she worked to preserve the historically significant yet endangered Rosenwald Schools. She spent over 300 hours on her project and is grateful for all the amazing experiences and learning opportunities along the way. In 2014, her Gold Award Project was recognized as one of the top 10 projects in the country.
NATIONAL REGISTER NOMINATION

Julia became the youngest person in Kentucky to nominate a site to be on the National Register of Historic Places at age 15.
She successfully listed the Buck Creek Rosenwald School, a one-room schoolhouse that served African American students during the era of segregation.

Her work included conducting research from primary and secondary sources, writing the National Register Nomination form, and presenting to the Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board.

You can view Julia's nomination on the National Park Service Website.
